The Studio
Steve Hamilton Studio is where I develop and create my original work through a disciplined, process-led approach built on structure, material integrity and layered construction.
At its core, my studio is about creating original work that connects people directly to how I think, build and see — instinctive in its origin, but highly controlled in its execution. Every piece is constructed, not decorated. Considered, not produced.
My Process
My work is defined by a multi-layer stencil system that sits at the centre of my practice.
Each piece is built through a structured sequence of individually cut layers, developed digitally and translated into physical form using precision-cut stencil techniques. Works often consist of 20 to 30+ layers, applied in a controlled progression to build depth, tone and form.
This process allows me to balance instinct with discipline — capturing the energy of the subject while maintaining a high level of technical accuracy. The result is work that reads as both graphic and organic; highly structured up close, yet cohesive and resolved at distance.
Material selection is deliberate. Surface, paint systems and framing are treated as part of the work itself, not an afterthought. Each decision contributes to the final presence of the piece within a space.
Original Works
Originals sit at the centre of my studio practice.
These are one-off works or tightly controlled releases, built through the full stencil process and resolved as finished pieces. They are not reproduced in the same form.
Most works are created within the Stencil Botanica™ series — a structured exploration of native Australian flora, where form, tone and layering are pushed to create depth and visual rhythm. These works are designed to hold presence within a space, integrating naturally into contemporary interiors without becoming decorative.
Output is intentionally limited. I do not produce in volume, and works are rarely repeated. Each release is controlled to maintain the integrity of the studio and the value of the work.
Commissions — Eternal Editions™
Eternal Editions™ is my main commissioned work offering.
These pieces are developed as highly personal works, created from source material provided by the client and interpreted through my process. The focus is on creating something that carries meaning — not just visually, but in what it represents.
While the process remains structured and consistent, each piece is approached individually. Composition, tone and overall feel are considered in the context of both the subject and where the work will live.
The outcome is a resolved, original piece that sits comfortably within a home or space, while holding a deeper personal connection for the owner.
Limited Editions and Studio Proofs
Alongside originals, I release a limited number of editioned works and studio proofs.
Limited editions translate selected works into print form, maintaining fidelity to the original while providing a more accessible entry point into the studio.
Studio proofs are raw works taken directly from the studio process. These pieces may show construction marks, variations or unfinished elements — offering a more direct insight into how the work is built. They are released in very small numbers and are not repeated.
Wider Practice
While the studio is led by stencil-based botanical work, my broader practice includes abstract compositions and selected pop art, pop culture and portrait-based pieces. These are developed periodically via commissions or released in a controlled way, sitting alongside the core body of work.
Future releases will also expand into sculptural and object-based works, continuing the focus on material, form and constructed process.
Every piece that leaves the studio reflects the same underlying approach — structure, precision and intent. The aim is to create work that not only holds its place within a space, but stands apart from it.
This is original work, built to last.
